  • Largest Land Carnivore: Polar bears are the largest land carnivore. Adult males typically weigh between 900 to 1,600 pounds, but can reach up to 2,200 pounds!

  • Strong Sense of Smell: Polar bears have an incredibly strong sense of smell, which they use to find seals. They can smell a seal on the ice 20 miles away.

  • Cubs Learn to Freeze: When a mother polar bear hunts, her cubs know to stay perfectly still and quiet, freezing in place so they don't alert any prey.

  • Zebra Stripes: Despite looking like they're related to zebras due to their striped hindquarters and legs, okapis are actually the only living relative of the giraffe.

  • Long Tongues: Like giraffes, okapis have long, prehensile tongues. They can even clean their own eyelids and ears with their tongues!

  • Infrasound Communication: Okapis use infrasound, sounds that are too low for humans to hear, for communication. This helps them stay in touch without alerting predators.

  • Pouch Babies: Like kangaroos, quokkas are marsupials. This means that their young, called joeys, develop in a pouch after birth.

  • Diet: Quokkas like to swallow their food whole without chewing, then regurgitate it later and eat it again. Their diet consists of native grasses and leaves as well as the bark of some plants.

  • Selfie Stars: Quokkas are famous for being incredibly photogenic and are known for taking "selfies" with tourists.
